The Role:

We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer for our Christchurch office. This may be at the Intermediate or Junior level.

The role includes geotechnical investigations and design, seismic assessments, reports and documentation work, project coordination, site inspections and building and maintaining client relationships. Specific responsibilities will depend on the experience of the appointee.

About You:

You will need to be a NZ Citizen or have an appropriate work visa and a valid NZ Driver’s Licence.

The Essentials We are Looking for at the Junior Level:


A tertiary qualification in geotechnical engineering

Previous Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in geotechnical engineering
  • Field logging of soils and rock
  • Seismic experience (desirable)
  • Knowledge of technical software e.g. Slide, CoreGS

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Good inter-personal and relationship-building skills
  • A willingness and aptitude to learn and extend knowledge
  • A team player

If you are at the Intermediate level then we expect all of the above plus:

  • Five years’ or more professional experience in geotechnical engineering
  • Design of slope stability measures / retaining walls / deep piles
  • A robust understanding of the technical matters around ground settlement, slope stability and liquefaction
  • To be chartered or working towards Chartered Professional (CPEng or CPEngGeol)
  • Knowledge of additional technical software e.g. Wallap, RS Pile
  • Mapping, logging and investigation experience
  • Geotechnical assessments and foundation design across a wide range of projects
  • Excellent technical report writing skills
