We are looking for a motivated Geotechnical Field Technician to join our Whakatāne team. This role supports the delivery of professional consulting services and provides an excellent opportunity to develop a career in geotechnical and environmental field work.
No previous geotechnical background or qualification is required as training will be provided.
The role
Reporting to the Geotechnical Team Leader, you will assist with field investigations, construction monitoring, and technical documentation. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and technicians while developing practical and technical skills.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out field investigations including hand augering, Scala testing, and soil sampling
- Assist with geotechnical and geo‑environmental investigations under supervision
- Help prepare reports, drawings, and documentation packages
- Undertake construction monitoring such as formation inspections and compaction supervision
- Have clear and concise handwriting and able to make clear inspection notes
- Ability to interpret plans and understand project requirements
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, councils, and internal teams
- Ensure all work complies with company procedures, safety requirements, and relevant standards
- Occasional travel within New Zealand may be required

- Qualifications or experience in civil, environmental, geology, earth sciences, or construction are advantageous but not required
